KINE 3000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Adam Kreek, Simon Whitfield, Social Cognitive Theory
Document Summary
Personal and social factors influence intentions which in turn influence sport and pa behaviour. The core of this theory = intention. If there is an intention (if you plan to do it), you will act on that intention. Individuals underlying beliefs how one perceives/internalizes those beliefs intention sport & exercise behaviour (from the chart) attitudes and perceived behavioural control have the strongest link to ones intention. How to apply this: need to enhance individuals intentions. Target subjective norms (very hard when people around you don"t engage in pa behaviour) Facilitate perceived behavioural control (come up with strategies for individuals to overcome barriers, how can you turn time as a limitation into time as a barrier that can be overcome?) Case study in slides: make a company gym (very positive/convenient, if people are already exercising and going there, it will change the subjective norms of the atmosphere, will act like a domino affect.
