KINE 3020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Gamma Motor Neuron, Alpha Motor Neuron, Muscle Spindle
Document Summary
We have neurons that chronically re, even if there are not external stimuli. Their gates are leaky so ions just leak in and re. 2 types of neurons: tonic: fire steadily even if they have nothing going on, if there is no external stimulus. These neurons can increase or decrease their ring, to provide the brain with more information: phasic: fire under stimulation. These neurons are binary, meaning they are either ring or they"re not, so they give one piece of information to the brain. Sensory nerves wrap around intrafusal bres: 1a a erent bres: static and dynamic information. This type of neuron will show you a gradual increase in ring rate. They are wrapped around the nuclear bags (wrap around chain bres). Tell you how fast you stretch: 2 a erent bres: static information only. This type of neuron will show you only that you had an increase, and will not gradually go up to it.
