Time to contact: they are cues that are associated with info about moving object. Tells you when you need to stop, or where something moving is in relation to you: it"s timing information you need to know so you don"t run into things, it gives you cue for movement initiation. At what point to i push on the door, or the break pedal or whatever. The shorthand term used for time to contact is tau. Time to contact is a ratio: when you see an object it has a certain size on your retina. When it is moving, it"s rate of expansion will tell your brain how long you have till the object arrives at you or you get to it. How does a baseball player know where to run to catch the ball, how fast he needs to move to get there, and where it is going to be: there are 2 tau"s in a situation.
