The task of the effector mechanism: organize the motor system for the desired movement, no movement yet, two control systems. Control of motor units is achieved by two different systems. Lower still attempting to hit a slow curve in baseball. However, predictability must be measured in relation to the skill level of the performer. Effector control is achieved by two different systems. Open loop system: uses purely ballistic" (unguided) movements, it is fast but cannot cope with a changing environment and depends on motor memories (programmes) stored in ltm. Closed loop system: uses feedback to modify ballistic movements, it is therefore slower but possibility of modification means that it can cope with a changing environment. Ballistic: aimed but unguided movement, cannot change the direction.
