Sociology is the tool we use to study sport, within our society: it provides us with concepts, theories, and research methods to analyze sport. 70% of children in north america stop playing sports competitively. Culture: its essentially the way people lead their lives; how people do things and what they consider to be important to them. Canadians in quebec that do not feel that they should be part of canada although they live in the same geographical location. What is sport: something can be de ned as sport if it is physical, competitive, institutionalized, and motivated by both external and internal rewards. Institutionalized: playing under the same rules, regardless of the place, someone present to enforce the rules. Play: usually free, with you setting the rules. Spectacle: wrestling, like wwe, the one that is just for show and you already know who is going to win. Money & entertainment are the main criteria for dramatic spectacles.
