- Communication:
- Eye level, Smile, Use their name
- Speak slowly and gain their trust
- Explain what you are doing (avoid battery charges)
- Stay calm and supportive
- Be honest but use discretion
- Dealing with caregivers:
- Patient first***
- Include caregiver in care (parent calm, child calm)
- Expect a variety of responses- if they become a barrier

- Proper child-sized equipment provides optimal care

- Look for signs of non-accidental trauma
- Ask what the chief complaint is
