KINE 3645 Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Traumatic Brain Injury, Vision Disorder, Hematoma
KINE 3645
Lecture 12
- Types of Brain Injury
o Cerebral Hematoma- collection of blood between layers
of scalp
▪ Epidural- between dura and subdural mater
▪ Subdural- between subdural and arachnoid space
▪ Subarachnoid
▪ Intracerebral
o Concussion (MTBI- Mild Traumatic Brain Injury)
- Physiology of Brain Injury
o Blood vessels dilate, blood shunted to injured area
o Swelling = less room in skull for blood and CSF
▪ Pressure in skull increases
o Brain stem compression
▪ Can affect heart and lung function
- Brain Injury S/S
o Headache, Nausea/vomiting
o Altered responsiveness or Loss of memory
o Combativeness, confusion, or disorientation
o Unequal and/or unreactive pupils with Visual
disturbances
