Document Summary
Atpases are class of enzymes that break down atp to provide useful cellular energy. Metabolism regenerates atp so that it remains constant in a cell. Then you take needs atp and if you are going slow the energy demand is not high. When you go fast the demand is higher. So we have a demand and we have to supply it with metabolism atp. Three systems that do that and they are time dependent. So why do these other systems (anaerobic glycolysis and aerobic) not behave right away like atp- Because they are multi-enzyme pathways that take longer to get going, up regulate, to activate. The key thing here is the enzyme creatine phosphokinase (cpk). We have a certain amount of atp that will cover few contractions of exercise. Atp is broken down by the myosin atp releases the 7kcal of energy for muscle contraction.
