Apathy is likely outcome when an individ with a low skill lvl is confronted with a nonchallenging situation. Boredom ensue when a highly skilled athlete is confronted with a nonchallenging comp situation. Dispositional flow measured in 398 athletes participating in masters games in a setting separate from comp as well as trait anxiety, goal orietntation, intrinsic motivation and perc ability. Found: both trait and state measure of flow are correclated with perc ability. Thus flow is assoc with high lvls of skill and challenge: both trait and state measure fo flow are negatively correlated with comp trait anxiety. Thus, positive affect facilitates flow exp: trait and state measure of flow are positive correlated with intrinsic movtiation. Flow factors acc for 50% of the variability of subjective performance and. Flow correlated with self concept and with the ability to copy with adversity: jones"s directionality theory.
