Patients have weak muscles but live a normal life. Myotonic muscular dystrophy: - occurs in adults, both males and females. Muscles remain in spasms (involuntary contractions) or become stiffened. Myasthenia gravis: - involves a failure in the transmission of nerve impulses due to an autoimmune disorder and is characterized by persistent muscular weaknesses.
