Sports medicine team: group of specialised medical professionals, can include, sport chiro, physio, athletic therapies etc, provide immediate on-site health care, primary care team. Usually involved with athletic therapist, athlete, coach, sports medicine docs. Athletic therapist communicates with athlete and coach. Hence communication is imp. skill set for athletic therapist. Performance + injury prevention they are getting paid to perform, and stay healthy (hence prevent injury) Responsible for injury prevention esp. when athletic therapist not available. Hence must know first aid and must ensure athletes are not overworked. Determine mental and physical health of athletes to see if they can play or if there is risk of injury. Qualifications: can be general practitioner, can be orthopedic surgeon, usually athletic therapist. Primary concern = prevention, health and welfare of athlete. Injury prevention, assessment, management, rehab, reconditioning and immediate care. Group of people that may help when athletes are recovering.
