Segmental - each segment has 1 pair of dorsal and ventral roots dorsal (info arrives; sensory, a erent) & ventral (info exists; motor; e erent) Gray matter dorsal horn (groups of a erent sensory neurons from periphery) ventral horn (groups of e erent motor nelsons (cell bodies)) lateral horn interneurons (local circuit neurons) which modulate info owing btwn sensory and motor; short distance. White matter (myelin) bundles of ascending and descending axons for carrying info toward and away from the brain. Cerebellum - balance and coordination; requires a lot of energy; as many neurons as cerebrum. Medulla - regulates critical cardiovascular & respiratory func; low energy consumption. Pons - conveys info about movement from cerebral to cerebellum. Midbrain - coordination of visual and auditory re exes.
