Document Summary

Some are good (anti inflammatory) and others are pro inflammatory. Plasminogen activator inhibitor (pai)- increased in obese ppl. Pai inhibits the inhibitor- fibrinogen (it prevents the blood clots from forming and growing). The decrease in fibrinogen leads to the hypercoagulable state. Resistin- it is secreted by macrophage s. inhibits insulin"s effect on adipose cells. It increases hyperglycemia which leads to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. It is involved in processes that leads to cvd, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, thrombosis, smooth muscle dysfunction. Leptin- secreted by wat(white adipose tissue) and inhibits appetite. Sensors in the brain affected by the low levels of leptin during fasting. The act of sensing the low leptin was a way to protect against starvation by reducing energy and increasing fat storage. The resistance / absence(deficiency) can cause obesity and diabetes. When the leptin is replaced in the body, there is decrease in appetite, energy expenditure and glucose homeostasis.
