Major depressive disorder (mdd) affects daily feelings, actions, thoughts and wellness. Depression is a mood disorder that causes profound, long-lasting feelings of severe sadness, loss of interest in daily activities and withdrawal. Feelings of sadness, loss, anger or frustration last for weeks, months or even lifetime: dysthymia. Symptoms not as severe with major depression: seasonal affective disorder (sad) Occurs & disappears around the same time each year. Changes in seasons & reduced exposure to sunlight can trigger this depression: depressive psychosis. Depressed mood along w/psychosis or loss of touch with reality. Have delusions (false beliefs) or hallucinations (seeing or hearing things: bipolar disorder. Mood variations that swing from highs (mania) to lows (depression: postpartum depression. Feel restless, anxious, fatigue, irritable, tearful, and feel inadequate. Moth may have a lack of interest or negative feelings toward the baby. Hormonal changes after the birth of child may contribute to postpartum depression: premenstrual dysphoric disorder (pmdd)
