Statistics the science of collecting, analysing and drawing conclusions from data. Population the entire collection of individuals or objects about which information is desired is called population of interest. Sample a subset of the population selected for study in some prescribed measure. This makes it more difficult to create a stat. If there is 0 variability there will be no need to select because everyone would be the same. Allows us to distinguish between value and in value. Variable a characteristic that changes or varies over time and for different individual"s or objects under consideration. A variable can take different values for different individuals. Qualitative variable (categorical) places an individual into one of several groups or categories. Brand of a computer bought by a customer. Quantitative variable (numerical) measure a numerical quality or amount on each experimental unit. Discrete variable discrete if the possible values are isolated points on the number line.
