MKTG 3100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Milgram Experiment, Telus, Movember
Document Summary
Values and value pluralism (influences on our moral behavior) Values are those beliefs or standards that incline us to act or to choose in one way rather than another. Value pluralism: there are several values which may be equally compelling, but conflict with one another, and there is no right answer. Descriptive business ethics refers to those standards, values, and principles that operate within business. Normative business ethics refers to an academic discipline that not only studies those standards, values, and principles, but also seeks to articulate and defend the ones that ought or should operate in business. The idea that business ethics is an oxymoron is misguided on 2 fronts: in a descriptive sense, businesses are guided by rules, standards, principles, and obligations that structure the work environment. Regardless of all else, in this class, we will hold the position that being ethical creates unique business opportunities.
