Chapter 2 author goes back through history and explores various techniques of persuasion. Two techniques of propaganda was used back then. (page 36) the description of ones self and one group the victim. Even if the description is true it can still be a type of propaganda. Ex: first nations people correctly describe ways they have been victimized by the. Canadian government can be described as propaganda but can also be viewed as them using a negative de nition to describe themselves. Ex: wealthy people portray themselves as victims from unions/government. Victim hegemony (pg 45) when countries infer/exaggerate/provoke and incident of violence to some or all citizens. Ex: oscar winning picture in 1942 called misses miniver which won during world war. 2 is a movie which portrays the british as innocent victim to the germans. Second technique is claiming that god is on your side. Islamist militants feel their doing god works recruit people based on that fact.
