Refers to all music born in the western world including europe. Records of this music exist back well over 1000 years. Although genres, styles and languages have changed throughout centuries the elements contained within comprise the foundation of western music. Characteristics of the sound/ nature of the sound. The characteristic of the sound is based on each instrument. Derived from scales or ordered set of pitch from low to high and high to low. Words of a song contain a melody. Most commonly major and minor scales are identifiable in western music.
