Research shows that few internet users spend a great deal of their time verifying online information except when highly motivated to do so (i. e. the information will impact them personally, such as seeking knowledge about a health issue) When looking for information less relevant or personal to them, people will rely more on peripheral information (cues) to determine information credibility because they don"t want exert a lot of mental time and effort with information processing tasks.
