NATS 1575 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Eyepiece, Optical Instrument, Virtual Image
Document Summary
Introduction: a microscope is an optical instrument that uses a lens or a combination of lenses to magnify and resolve the fine details of an object. An instrument that enables you to magnify images to see an object clearer in a larger view. Osborn was the pioneer of the microscope. The magnified image seen by looking through a lens is known as a virtual image, whereas an image viewed directly is known as a real image. The object to be magnified is placed under the lower lens, called the objective and viewed through the upper lens, called the eyepiece. Various types of microscopes are used to analyze forensic specimens. The naked eye can see things from 1cm to a little less than 1 mm. The light microscope can see a plant cell and animal cell. The bacterial cell is 1 micrometer and 1 micrometer is 10-6m.
