Document Summary

The human body is a collection of atoms that are held by chemical bonds. Bodies are highly organized: atoms molecules tissues organs organ systems organism. Atoms are tiny bits of matter formed by subatomic structures: protons (+), electrons (-), and neutrons. Some atoms interact with each other and others will never interact. A molecule is a union of atoms that depending of the atoms will have a particular shape. Raw materials form body structures and add new molecules to the body. Energy maintain molecular structures and drives metabolism. Energy flows in the ecosystem in one direction. The trophic levels are feeding relationships in the ecosystem. The difference between decomposers and detritivores is that decomposers absorb nutrients from decaying organism, dead plants, feces, etc. and detritivores (such as vultures, crabs, some insects, earthworms) eat the remains of dead organism. Each trophic level gets just 10% of the energy because the other 90% is lost as heat released back in the environment.
