For example, guilds supported injured workers for periods of time, as well as provide relief upon death. By the early 18th centuries they had become extremely powerful and controlled trade and production quotas, it was a way of supporting prices etc. Guilds also guarded secrets of production of their crafts. (trade secrets) members are forbidden from speaking about these secrets.
