This is combined with a very serious economic crisis, 30% unemployment rate post ww1. Nazism was a extreme right wing political movement, not based on a specific ideology. Loose collection of ideas, but more prevalent viewpoints were of extreme nationalism, extreme racism (eugenics). These ideas elevated and strengthened germany in their eyes. 1933 january, hitler was appointed chancellor, but after the riehstag was burnt down, hitler declared war on communism and declared emergency laws. Hitler and nazi party had effective control of the state, and the police. They used this power to arrest thousands of communists, suspended civil liberties (such as laws for the restoration of the civil service) being a member of the nazi party was important in advancing anywhere in society.
