Document Summary

Engineering sciences: body of knowledge which focus on techniques and practices which are drawn from sciences which create technology and machines. We are interested in how they work but more importantly the attitudes which drive them; philosophy draws on two things: rationality: idea that the world should be rational; things be made according to reason. Rationality should govern all human affairs: world itself for raw material for a better world; the world is dead (dichart), the world isn"t alive that the way it was. The world itself can be remade because of being a raw material. Its applied science, making objects of engineering seem neutral. Technological determinism: is a theory about the powers of technology in historical development. It believes that technology shapes society; but society doesn"t shape technology or by very little. Strong version; technology does develop human and historical development. Soft version: technology is one of the most important factors in social development.
