Seeing patterns in randomness (not covered as much in your reading) Humans evolved to become good @ pattern detection (darwin"s idea) 1st hominid thought he saw a lion in the bushes, ran away, there was one, so saved his life. 2nd thought he saw lion, there wasn"t one, false alarm. 3rd thought he saw but didn"t do anything, dies. Works to filter out irrelevant options-string aspects of expertise. But can also mean experts miss the unexpected. How we filter out irrelevant times and concepts i. e doctors diagnosing thr flu but was really sars. Therefore our visual system evolved to become very sensitive to patterns important to us. Experiments carefully vary one factor to see its effect on another. Cant for some ethically idea like children bullying each other. In many cases with humans and experiments, u can assign the participants randomly. Assuming later events must have been caused by earlier ones.
