When you can"t read for interest read for purpose. Reading academic materials is very different from reading a regular book magazine or internet article bc there"s a completely different level of interest involved. What"s the purpose of reading an academic article- it"s not enough to simply say bc i have to or my professor told me to . Generally you will read an academic article. book chapter for one of two reasons: to learn new knowledge or to supplement knowledge you already have. Figuring out each purpose is key bc you will end up reading differently depending on activity you"re doing. Reading to gain new knowledge requires patience and time- you need to absorb and digest info that is completely foreign to you- process is slower. Process of learning happens in stages- comprehension to application of knowledge. Reading and taking notes usually a 2 step process: first highlight and then go back through reading and taking notes.
