Monopoly the deinition refers to one entity having complete control over an entire area. (we will extend it to one or two entities later on) The second industrial age the irst time we see a monopoly over science (a control over science that included not just the invention that will come out of scientiic discovery, but a control of the processes themselves. ) This control over science was very much connected to the rise of techno-science industries during this time. Patents help control products of scientiic technology and eventually play a role in the process of scientiic production (industrial research). Patents were not new to the industrial age people have been using it for centuries prior. The ways in which countries and companies used patents during this time is what was new. (it is very important to remember that patents were not new to this time period.
