NATS 1870 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Celluloid, Tungsten, Light Stage
Document Summary
Filters affect the spectral composition of light, as well as intensity. Fine particles (gold) material gets suspended in a supporting medium. Transparent filters: light emerges in the same direction; absorption is dominant mechanism. Diffuse: light can emerge in any direction; scattering is dominant. Neutral density filters: transmit all wavelengths, but at reduced intensity stacking filters also decreases the intensity of the light stage filters: problem- blue gels tend to burn out after few days, but red, yellow, filters last for weeks. Blue filters absorb a lot more light energy when they are lit by tungsten bulbs- energy causes the blue filter to melt. Two solutions: use a bluer light source, or use filter that will absorb the ir energy from the tungsten bulb. Additive mixture happens when sources of light combine in your eye and cones respond together.
