NATS 1720 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Retina, Specular Reflection, Curved Mirror
Document Summary
Light is another way of referring to electromagnetic radiation. Visible light is the range of wavelengths of that electromagnetic radiation spectrum that the human eye is sensitive to. Light has dual property: it acts at times as a particle and other times as a wave. This dual property is the foundation of the study of quantum physics. Geometric optics: trying to figure out where and how light travels. It"s the study of the effect of lenses and mirrors on light beams/rays. Divergent light rays are those that propagate from a source, traveling in all directions and moving further apart over time. Simply put, they are light rays moving away from each other. Converging light rays are those that, after reflection, move towards each other until they converge at a certain point (the focal point). Simply put, they are light rays moving closer together.
