Planets with surface water are in the habitable zone of the stellar system. Kepler satellite produced indirect evidence for almost 3000 new exoplanets, of which many were in the habitable zones and many of earth size. Many are like gliese 581 d and keppler 22 b, both of earth size and in the habitable zone. In february 2017 nasa discovered a system of 7 earth-type planets at 40 light-years from us.
