Nats 1510 lecture 16 the car. The automobile is pervasive & integrated in north america. There"s nowhere we can go without seeing one. Every country has one regardless of their wealth. There are places like drive thru for cars. Integrated: many social activities pursued in cars. Restrictions on use: licensing and cost of operation. Not everyone gets to drive a car. Cars are intertwined with pop culture, north american values; individual freedom, economic prosperity, sign of adulthood. Motor vehicle, urbanization and suburbanization, personal mobility, distribution of goods. Getting a car was a big deal. City planners created the city in the mind set that you would have a car. People want a car because it gives them the freedom to move around (personal mobility tool) Everything we need and everything we use is transported in a vehicle (everything in society requires a car) Fuel that we use is gasoline = causes green house gases.
