Description
This experiment was done several different times using different sources: different light sources were used such as direct sunlight, the experiment was done during cloudy conditions, an ordinary light bulb was used as well. By using different blocking for UV light such as Sunglasses and using a clear glass door, sunscreens was also used, UV-sensitive (color changing) beads, Clear plastic bag, sunscreen sample and sunglasses (black normal). th Experiment using “Direct sunlight”, this experiment was done on Wednesday March 14 , 2012 at 2:00pm and the temperature was 16 degrees and sunny. The bead was places on the stone stairs. As soon as the bead was placed on the stairs, the colour of the bead started to change, within couple of seconds the colour of the bead changed to purple. The colour of the bead got darker as it was left in the sunlight for ten minutes. Experiment done during “Cloudy conditions and rainy”, this experiment was done on March, March 12, 2010 at 10:00am and the temperature was 10 degrees. The bead was placed on the stairs. The bead’s colour was changed to very light orange (more like peach colour). The bead was placed for fifteen minutes but the colour of the bead did not get darker. It was still the same light orange colour. Experiment using “ordinary light bulb” with different length of distance. One of the beads was place four cm away from the blub and the bead first turned light purple and as it was left there for ten minutes, but the colour of the bead got darker within five minutes. Another bead was place twenty cm away from the bulb and as it was places the colour of the bead changed to light purple and it was left there in front of the blub light for ten minutes. The colour of the bead did get to a dark purple but took longer. Experiment using “sunglasses as UV blocking”, this experiment was done on Wednesday th March 14 , 2012 at 3:00pm and the temperature was 16 degrees and sunny. A pair of black sunglasses was used as UV blocker. This experiment was done outside in the front yard and the bead was placed behind the sunglasses. As the bead was placed behind the sunglasses, the bead slowly started to change the colour. First the colour of the bead turned to a light orange, after ten seconds the colour got a little darker and as it was left there for five minutes, the colour of the bead changed to orange. (Normal everyday wear black sunglasses were used) Experiment using “clear glass door as UV blocking”, this experiment was done on Wednesday th March 14 , 2012 at 3:20pm and the temperature was 16 degrees and sunny..
