Description
Chapt 7 continued  National post= 300 meter wide asteroid with remote possibility of striking earth in 2036 to pass by today  Has the largest temperature range liquid = water  Advantages of water= water is polar molecule which means that  Oxygen has 8 protons and 8 neutrons and 8 electrons when it combines with hydrogen  Polarity comes from the uneven change distribution within a molecule  Polar molecule= minerals dissolve within it and in chemical bonding  Cell walls don’t dissolve  Essential for protection of cell interiors do not dissolve in water = cell membranes  Hydrogen bonds is responsible for ice being less dense than water allowing water to float  If ice form bottom to top all life will die   Ice form from the top insulates protect life in the pond and allows the extreme temperatures  Property does water not have:  Water has: solvent, polar molecule, liquid over wide range of temps, solid water floats, high heat capacity, high surface tension  Water is responsible for surface tension  Heat capacity- a measure of how much heat energy a material can store per kilogram as ir changes temps.  Surface tension= property a surface has to resist an external force  Heat capacity example is heating stuff  Heat capacity means it’s the energy required to bring a substance up 1 degree Celsius  Water molecules on the surface has no bonds  Surface tension is good for development of life  A habitual world must have liquid medium either on the surface or below the surface and raw materials of life CONH and energy (sun light r internal heat from the planet or body)  Size-mometeres to check structure of the moon  He moon is 3599 km of diameter and is smaller then earth  Moon has a percent od 1/81  1.6% of the mass of the earth is the moon  u weigh 1/6 pounds on the pounds  the core of the moon is 200km and it is iro rich  the other layers (outer) core and then the asthenosphere na lithosphere and lithosphere  athesinso were is like mantel and plastic and cant move as much and dont get plate tectonics of volcanoes  the lithosphere is solid outer core of the moon 1000 km thick  crust is thin and 60 km thick this is the crust on the moon  the crust of the moon is different on the earth facing side to the opposite side  the core of the moon is closer to the earth then to the center and same way the crust is thinnest and much thicker away from earth  structural shift casuse= earth is 100 times more massive and gravitational force is stronger and this symmetry exists  three features on the moon= maria (seas) though mare thought were seas on the moon and mare are th darker spots on the moon and stuff In between which are
