Philosophy 2060 lecture 5 hobbes" idea of philosophy. Hobbes idea of philosophy has 3 major points. The idea of compromise/contractual relations among people of europe. These are the types of ideas that hobbes was experiencing at that time, which arose the idea of his philosophy. The starting point for hobbes was looking at the human nature (power, liberty, self interested, the pre social phase, a phase of no values) 2 elements in human nature, one that we are looking for a community like state, yet we are not very happy among them. Two we are very anti social, individualistic beings. The second aspect was looking at the set of values (safety, allow us to express ourselves) And taking in both these aspects he comes up with a set of institutions (needs to be compatible to what we can do, and (cid:272)a(cid:374)"t be too costly to our human nature) His idea was more evolutionary compared to locks.
