Document Summary

Aristotle takes a very practical approach, practically wise person is someone who is able to use reason whenever there is a choice. Virtue is a disposition accompanied by right reason. Ethics there is no algorithm, no formula to apply unlike plato. Ethics is not a science it is an art according to aristotle. There is a standard when it comes to judging what is right thing to do, what would the truly virtuous person would do. The thing is as it appears to a good man. The good person is the measure of all things even pleasure. Pleasure supervenes, will enjoy pleasure in being virtuous, pleasure however is not the target but virtue is. Both excess and defect can be accompanied by pleasure or pain. The pleasures that accompany excess and defect will not be the right pleasure. Even certain pleasures can be right or wrong.
