PHIL 2070 Lecture 10: lecture 10
Document Summary
Singer argues effectively that many of us here we all are living far too extravagant lifestyles given the fact that there"s so much poverty in the world. You are morally required to spend nothing on yourself, except what will preserve your life and health, and to give that money to famine relief instead. Because: bob is morally required to throw the switch, bob"s case and yours are the same in all morally relevant respects. You live in a world where people mostly children are dying from hunger every 10 seconds. About 9 million children a year dying from poverty and hunger through no fault of their own. You can spend 200 dollars right now and safe one of those lives that"s a fact. Bob is close to retiring, he has invested all his savings in a bugatti which he is unable to insure. Bob knows that the cars rising value, he can sell it during retirement and be well off.
