Phil 2075 lecture 1 july 6th, 2015: understand what ethics is and moral rules and principles, morals include asking questions such as, how should we treat other people, more theoretical questions such as, are there moral rules that apply to all people, morals include thinking of how to become a good person, in order to do this we need to look closely where out values come from (religion, ethics involves having good judgment, fair treatment of others and being a good person of character, what is ethics, making judgments on conflicting moral issues. Reasons of value such as moral, aesthetic (liking and preferring something), and practical (if its cold outside, you will wear warm clothes), health, financial: all this comes into play while making a decision, these reasons may conflict with one another and lead in different directions, ethical decisions are much more serious, moral rules, difficulties in applying moral rules:
