Many people were inspired by him, they meant to be following what he was talking about. These regimes had some problems, economically and they turned out to be corrupt. On the whole, they did a worse job than the better capitalist countries at respecting basic human rights. There wasn"t really a communist regime that existed that was amazing, they all had problems. It"s tempting to think that marx"s idea"s have been refuted by history. They were tried out and they didn"t work. None of the regimes that call themselves marxist or communist, look anything like what. The most obvious is that marx clearly thinks that in the ideal communist society, the state will basically wither away. The need for the state will disappear. All the regimes that existed that call themselves communist, had extremely centralized political power. The state was very big and it controlled a lot, who was in power made a huge difference.
