Polis: is a small political unit that allowed for immediate contact with the fellow citizens and also with the needs of the community. Its more than a community, the polis and its democratic incarnations will be more than a political community, it will be a way of life. This way of life will be based on a quest for excellence for all things. The citizen will express their identity through political participation and will help shape the community. The community in turn will become the collective expression of the individual expression. This will not be enough, till just be the first step of brining democracy: 594 bce solon will be the next great legislator: he will abolish slavery for debts. He will also abolish outstanding debts and abolish the money owed by peasants to the aerostatic families. He will decide that in order that athens do will they need to specialize.
