Before ba regimes, most people lived in os. People have always had cultures and identities and had a sense of who they were. Nationalism adds to cultural identification, the os system. Before napoleon, there were armies of 5-60k men, because armies were expensive and it was difficult to sustain them. Modern nationalism, you create state in which people are apart of something great and grand. Before napoleon there was just a village and a king, and the village is where the heart is. Mn is a technique that changes the perception of identity, so you are more willing to sacrifice your life on the battle front. The individual"s identity is made by the modern state. Everyone is exposed to the force that is nationalism. You"re either a nationalist or a rebel. Must of one"s identity is defined by the reaction to nationalism. National identity is constructed it is not natural.
