POLS 2910 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Thesis Statement
Document Summary
Read both textbooks, the debate text and also the other one to get a background: can bring your essay from a b to an a, not just general, but more extensive. You can use external sources, but it"s not necessary: if you feel like you need it, then go for it but don"t let it take you off track. Don"t just regurgitate the information in the textbooks, that"s already there: that doesn"t show your analysis skill, your ability to look at the debate, to sort through them and present them. Quote from the textbook: present the arguments, but you need to make it convincing as to why your side is more important and has more weight. Have to take a side, one side has to win. Need a thesis statement of course: clear concise statement that shows your position. What should happen and why: party discipline should be relaxed because it"s undemocratic.
