The geography of canadian economy - the west: used to be dominated by renewable resources (wheat, cattle and, mining and forest products) whose distribution was mainly determined by physiography. Since 1970s, new economic forces have come into play which has reshaped the economic structures in western provinces. Oil and gas resources mainly concentrated in alberta and. Saskatchewan have become the main source of wealth in the west. Used to be the bc/alberta border: more recently, the alberta-saskatchewan border. One, richer and more dynamic which is primarily pacific-oriented (b. c. /alb. ) One, less rich with fewer growth sectors that is north american-oriented (sask/man) For the last fifty years, diversification of economy (moving away from primary products) has been the main goal of governments in all western provinces: however, challenges are different for each province. Secondary (winnipeg is the centre of manufacturing in the west): furniture, windows and urban and inter-city buses, transportation equipment, clothing, food processing.
