It also lets us understand that there are variations among the different strands of liberalism and different schools of liberal thought when we look at what is meant by as much at liberty" as is possible . Ferguson makes references to liberty in his book and suggests that this concept has a very english heritage. This heritage is tied up in two concepts. When the two concepts are put together one realizes that the evolution of property rights leads to a wider liberty that ultimately reaches its zenith with the evolution of democracy. The clear example given is that of the american revolution with the american settlers taking up arms against the crown because of possibility of restriction on property rights and lack of political representation. Unsurprisingly these concepts came together in the demand for democracy and freedom.
