Document Summary
Correlational method: measure naturally occurring variations on both variables to see if they are related, used to help make predictions and you cannot infer cause and effect. R = or numbers --> strength of the relationships. + the variables changing in the same directions. If self esteem correlates with depression: there are still numerous possible casual links: Distressing events or biological predispositions -------- could cause -------- low self-esteem and. Self fulfilling prophecy: expectations can influence your behaviour when interacting with someone, which then that person acts in the same way in which you treated them based on your expectations of who they are. Statistics: mathematical computations that summarize and organize data. Descriptive stats: describe the characteristics of your data. Inferential statistics: makes inferences about populations using data drawn from the population. How much scores spread from the mean: range - subtract the lowest from the highest score, standard deviation - measures the average set of scores from the mean.
