Document Summary

Cerebral cortex: very thin outer layer of skin. 2 hemispheres have specialized function (held together by corpus calloseaum) Electrical stimulation to the brain (esb) or brain mapping. Split brain patients: corpus calloseaum removed in epileptic patients. Left hemisphere controls right side, right hemisphere controls left side. Stan coren says left handedness is related to pathological occurrence during fetal development or birth. Occurrence causes a syndrome twin more likely to be left handed. Mixed handedness: you can use right and left for different activities. More left handed artists, mathematicians, musicians, and architect. Social facilitation: improved performance on simple or well learned tasks in the presence of others. People in a group exert less effort when pooling their efforts to attain common goal than if they were working alone. Deindividuation: often occurs when group participation makes people feel aroused and anonymous (feeling less accountable) leading to a loss of self-awareness and self-restraint.
