Off shoot of the behavioural perspective: ex learning (classical and operant, behaviourist perspective stress importance of s-r relationship. Stimulus activates neurons and you respond to stimulates: this activates a certain part of the brain, and if this response is reinforced then the connection is made and continually gets stronger as action is reinforced. Continues and the response becomes mechanical and automatic: cognitive perspective. There is controversy which one is correct: evidence supports both, psychologists say that both happen. Memory can be considered a type of cognition: this can affect how we respond to a situation. Kohler was doing research with chimps: bananas were hanging out of reach to the chimps. Wanted to know if they could get the bananas. At rst it looked like chimps were using trail and error: then one stacked box and then used stick, the next stacked more boxes and then used stick.
