Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes (of a subject): knowledge about yourself and others, attempt to analyze human behavior. Behavior can be facial expressions, thoughts, emotions, etc. Examine behavior by analyzing emotions and thought processes. Mental processes include rational processes; problem solving: hypothesis leads to experiments. Early philosophy 400 bc - socrates/plato/aristotle mind, memory, self, mind/body. They analyzed things systematically, not actual data (simply an idea) Aristotle"s theory of memory suggested that memories are the results of three principles of association; similarity, contrast, and contiguity. Associationism is the theory that the mind is composed of elements -- usually referred to as sensations and ideas -- which are organized by means of various associations. Descartes argued for the dualism of mind and body, the two were separate and fundamentally different.
