Document Summary
Prejudice prejudgment, no basis and usually negative towards group. Attitude comes from stereotyped feelings, negative feeling etc. Explicit prejudice - attitudes that are at the conscious level, are deliberately formed and are easy to self- report. Implicit prejudice - attitudes that are at the unconscious level, are involuntarily formed and are typically unknown to us. Stereotype a generalized (sometimes accurate but often overgeneralized) belief about a group of people. Discrimination unjustifiable negative behavior towards a group and its members. Unconscious patronization (automatically assuming things that relate to race, ie. teachers grading papers according to standards they presume belongs to the race). Race-influenced perceptions our expectations of people influence our perceptions, ie. man shot because black and police assumed he was a rapist. Gender prejudice today most people agree that men and women should receive equal pay, however, gender prejudice still exists.
