Document Summary

Such as deliberate learning - it is effortful and conscious. Things that we have overlearned (time and time again) "factual" information - ex an encyclopedia - genera facts. Typically unique events such as your first kiss. Stimulus -> sensory store ->short term memory -> long term memory. Generally accepted that information in long term memory is permanent. At any one point along this chain information could be lost. I. e. did(cid:374)"t see it so it did(cid:374)"t" (cid:373)ake it to se(cid:374)sory. Or didn"t pay attention when it was in short term memory so it was not retained. There are also cases where information is available in long term memory - but not accessible. Can be analogous to the "tip of the tongue" phenomenon. Reasons why information is not always ready accessible (assuming it is in ltm) - two general reasons/explanations: Not being able to recall because the cues used at retrieval do not match those used at encoding.
