Out of all styles, authoritarian is the worst for boys their self-esteem is not as high. Neglectful style low health outcomes, low self-esteem. Authoritative style is most effective parents have authority but still allow for feedback/understanding between parent and child. Adolescence: transitional period between childhood and adulthood begins at around 13 to 22. Adolescent growth spurt: phase of rapid growth in height and weight typically starts at age 11 for girls and 13 for boys. Pubescence: two year span preceding puberty changes leading to physical and sexual maturity. Secondary sex characteristics: physical features that distinguish one sex from the other: males voice change, facial hair, greater skeletal and muscle growth, females breasts, curves, begins at puberty. Exposed ot experiences not emotionally ready for, eating disorder, pregnancy, involved with boys: boys feel more confident, more manly boost in self-esteem. Implications for boys and girls: worse for girls, boys e. g. facial hair, taller frame.
